Our Staff

- Kurt Gabel  - Head Farmer and Beekeeper

Kurt has been the Assistant Farmer at Amawalk Farm since 2005 and has always had an interest in plants and how things grow.   Since signing on at Amawalk, the farm has undergone massive growth and the acreage in production has tripled.  We are proud to now offer a pick your own raspberry patch and a farmers market in season.  In addition, we sell our veggies at several Mrs. Green s markets around Westchester.  We also eagerly anticipate offering a cut your own flowers operation this season.     Additionally, Kurt is in the process of completing a Master's degree in Ecology at Fordham University in the Bronx.  His research project goals are to determine the effectiveness of agricultural best management practices in the Catskills using bioassessment.  This work is in conjunction with the Watershed Agricultural Council and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection .  If you want to learn more about bioassessment with algae (diatoms) and macroinvertebrates or water quality, please feel free to drop an email and ask about research.

- Madeline Fletcher - Assistant farmer and chef extraordinaire

Since moving to the burbs from Brooklyn after Madeline and Kurt were married, Madeline has fallen in love with the farming life.  At the farm she has been able to cultivate her love of cooking and experimentation with fresh ingredients into numerous delicious dishes.  Look for her recipes in our harvest baskets as part of our weekly maintenance program.    When she doesn't have her hands in the dirt or her spoon in a sauce Madeline is a land use attorney and urban planner.
